Africa will inevitably be making its strength and sporting prowess felt at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The countdown is on. With less than 100 days to go, our athletes are ready. Some 630 of them have already qualified and the qualifiers are still going on.
We congratulate all the African athletes who have already qualified and encourage all those who are poised to qualify.
You are our pride and joy; you are our success in Paris 2024!
You inspire all our actions in favour of sport and through the Olympic values that you embody through your behaviour and your performances.
Paris 2024 here we come!
Before, during and after the Paris 2024 Games, we will continue to concert our efforts with the entire Olympic Movement: The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Federations (IFs), the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and our partners, to provide the necessary resources in order to create more opportunities for African athletes.
From the preparations to your participation, through the qualifiers, the Olympic scholarships and the technical support of the officials will enable you to achieve historic feats.
Officials and sponsors play an essential role. With 100 days to go before the Games, we need to ensure the success of our athletes without rushing, but with tact and accuracy.
The Olympic Games are all about participation and we need everyone to get behind the athletes so that they don’t just reach the finish line but bag medals.
Your medals will be precious. Go for gold, because Africa is a continent of gold.
Paris 2024 here we come!
Let’s all get involved, let’s be vehicles of solidarity, as our continent has always taught us. Solidarity is an African value and our athletes are its standard bearers.
Together, we will rise to the challenge of Paris 2024. I would like to thank you all for your commitment and support for the African Olympic and Sports Movement.
In terms of the vision and geopolitical issues surrounding the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Africa says NO TO THE POLITISATION OF SPORT.
The Olympic Games are the only event that brings the entire world together in peaceful competition. The athletes send out this powerful message: “Yes, It is possible to compete fiercely against each other and at the same time live peacefully together under one roof,” to paraphrase the IOC President, who also stated that “the athletes will shine and show us what greatness humans are capable of with all their excellence, determination and resilience.”
It is against this backdrop that we reject politicisation, which blatantly violates the Olympic Charter and must be condemned because it is disrespectful to athletes and undermines the integrity of sports competitions, according to the International Olympic Committee.
This is also our position, less than 100 days to the opening ceremony of the world’s biggest and most imposing sports and Olympic event, the OLYMPIC GAMES.
