Outstanding Journey

Mohamed Elsayed exuded determination and exceptional skills throughout the Olympic tournament. After winning his previous rounds, he faced off France’s Yannick Borel in the semi-final. Although he was beaten by Borel, who later on lost to Japan’s Koki Kano in the final, Elsayed bounced back with strength and resilience in the third place bout.

Tight Bronze medal Victory

The bronze medal bout against Tibor Andrasfi was intense and tight.  Both fencers showed great technical mastery and an iron will. In the end, Elsayed came out on top with a score of 8-7, clinching the coveted bronze medal.

Source of Pride for Egypt and Africa

This bronze medal is the third won by Africa at the Games, following the silver won by Tunisian fencer Fares Ferjani and the bronze medal by South African rugby team. For Egypt, it is the second Olympic medal in fencing, twelve years after Alaaeldin Abouelkassem’s silver in foil at the London Olympics.

Elsayed’s victory is thus a source of national and continental pride. It symbolises not only his individual talent but also the growing potential of fencing in Africa. This historic achievement will undoubtedly inspire many young athletes to pursue their sporting dreams.
