Africa, Asia and the Caribbean strengthen Olympic ties in curaçao

Mustapha Berraf and His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani were Guests of Honour at the 24th CANOC General Assembly

Curaçao — ANOCA President, Mustapha Berraf,  and OCA President, His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, were guests of honour at the 24th General Assembly of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC), chaired by CANOC President, Keith Joseph.

Their presence at the meeting reflects the growing ties between the African, Asian and Caribbean Olympic movements, driven by the shared desire to strength cooperation and solidarity for the benefit of NOCs and their athletes.

The meeting followed up on the commitments made in Nagoya in September 2026, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between ANOCA and CANOC and the renewal of the ANOCA – OCA partnership through to 2032.

Cooperation in Support of NOCs and Young People

The leaders of the three organisations called for the collaboration to translate into practical action through discussions among coaches, joint training and sharing of experiences. These initiatives should only aim at giving every young person the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

The historical and human ties between Africa and the Caribbean, alongside cooperation with Asia, provide a platform to advance these discussions and devise solutions tailored to the needs of NOCs.

This approach also recognises the essential role of NOCs, which resolutely support their athletes against all odds. It highlights their experience and the contribution made by their champions to promoting sport and inspiring younger generations.

Continents Connected by Solidarity

This meeting between senior officials from ANOCA, OCA and CANOC demonstrates a spirit of dialogue and mutual support across the Olympic Movement.

By pooling their talents, experiences and resources, the three organisations seek to create more opportunities for athletes and foster lasting solidarity among their members.

One Olympic family. 206 NOCs. Five continents. A shared future.
