ANOCA declaration on the upcoming Tokyo 2020

We, the authorities of the African Olympic and Sports Movement, gathered under the leadership of the Association of National Olympic and Sports Committees (ANOCA) and conscious of what the consequences of covid-19 pandemic could be,

TAKING INTO ACCOUNT the precarious state in which the world has found itself for a year due to this serious situation, which has engaged it into a dark and sad  corridor, full of uncertainties, doubts and confusion, and which has brought many activities to a halt, especially major human gatherings including sports events ;

HAVING IN MIND historical duties that the International Olympic Committee has assigned itself as governing body of the Olympic Movement and highest instrument for the promotion of sports and Olympic

  We, the authorities of the African Olympic and Sports Movement, gathered under the leadership of the Association of National Olympic and Sports Committees (ANOCA) and conscious of what the consequences of covid-19 pandemic could be,

We Declare on this day the 14th of January 2020 the following:

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), The 54 Member National Olympic committees, the African Olympic Sport Movement jointly stand united to praise the exceptional efforts exerted by the International Olympic Committee under the Presidency of H.E Dr Thomas Bach, The Japanese Government headed by H.E Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, The Tokyo 2020 organizing committee under the guidance of Yoshiro Mori, former Prime Minister of Japan, Chairman of the organizing committee, for hosting a successful Safe and secure Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

ANOCA express its dedication and commitment to work hand in hand to shoulder the IOC and Japan Excellent work progress amid all prevailing challenges and realize with great appreciation and gratitude the extensive efforts done to emplace measures for countering COVID-19 and fully agree to all protocols set to assure health and safety to all participants under any prevailing circumstance.

ANOCA expresses gratitude to the IOC and IOC partners for all support given to the National Olympic Committees for preparation and participation at the Tokyo 2020 Games, ANOCA meanwhile praises the efforts by the National Olympic Committees in securing the best conditions for the athletes to continue training and showcase Human abilities to overcome challenges at all times.

ANOCA commends the World Health Organization for the great support, guidance and coordination with the IOC to secure best scenarios and practices for the safety of the Olympic family.

The African Olympic and sports movement reaffirm its position in support of the IOC and welcome the sense of responsibility shown by President Dr. Thomas Bach to ensure that the Olympic Games are preserved and remain entirely willing to fulfill any needed role that leads to the success of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
