Juba, South Sudan — South Sudan National Olympic Committee (SSNOC) has officially commissioned its new headquarters, marking a historic milestone in the development of the Olympic Movement in South Sudan. This achievement clearly demonstrates the continental momentum driven by ANOCA to modernise sports institutions in Africa.   

 Headquarters dedicated to sports excellence

This brand-new headquarters embodies SSNOC’s unwavering commitment to strengthening sports governance, promoting Olympic values and offering a framework conducive to sport administration and development across the country. It will become the hub for coordinating Olympic activities, supporting national sports federations, preparing athletes for international competitions, and consolidating cooperation with national and international partners.

Solemn moment driven by a futuristic vision 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, SSNOC President, Choul LAAM expressed his deepest gratitude to all stakeholders, partners and supporters whose contributions made this achievement possible. He underscored that this new headquarters opens a new chapter characterised by professionalism, transparency, unity and excellence in sports management in South Sudan. He further stated that the headquarters is more than just a building, and stands as a beacon of hope, progress and our unflagging commitment to supporting athletes and promoting the Olympic ideals of excellence, friendship and respect. It will strengthen SSNOC’s capacity to serve athletes, member federations and the people of South Sudan, he noted.

Moreover, the SSNOC expressed  its sincere thanks to the Government of the Republic of South Sudan,  IOC, ANOCA , International Federations, member National Sports Federations, development partners and all friends of sport for their continuous support and trust in the growth of the Olympic Movement in South Sudan.

Pan-African initiative championed by ANOCA

Suffice it to note that this project is part of an initiative driven by the vision of ANOCA President, the Honourable Mustapha BERRAF, which aims at providing African NOCs that do not have their own headquarters with modern, operational buildings that comply with international standards.

This ambition is resolutely focused on the sustainable development of sport in Africa, underpinned by innovative and solidarity-based funding. In partnership with IOC and institutional donors like Olympic Solidarity and certain international sports federations, ANOCA is mobilising the resources needed to develop these facilities.

This model also focuses on making the beneficiary NOCs accountable, as they are required to maintain and optimise these facilities for greater impact. Several NOCs have already completed their headquarters while others are under construction.

South Sudan continues to invest in sports development. The inauguration of this new headquarters marks a major milestone in strengthening sports institutions, improving athlete development programmes, increased participation of young people in sport and preparing the national team for future continental, regional and Olympic competitions.
