ANOCA President, Honourable Mustapha BERRAF’s End-of-Year Message for 2025

Dear brothers and sisters of the great African Olympic and sports family,

As 2025 draws to a close, it is with deep emotion and immense pride that I address all of you, in your various corners where the African Olympic and Sports Movement is alive.

As we turn a new page in our shared history, I hail each and every one of you: our brave athletes who fly high our continent’s colours, our dedicated coaches, our committed sports administrators, our indefatigable volunteers, and all those who, day by day, work to promote sport in Africa.

The year 2025 will remain etched in our memories as a shining example of African unity and solidarity in action. In the face of challenges, we chose to stand together, staying true to the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect – values that bridge borders and unite us in our shared aspiration.

African unity is not a just a catchphrase – it is our life force. It is the hand of fellowship extended to a sister nation, the sharing of experiences among National Olympic Committees, the bond that connects a young athlete from the Sahel to a counterpart in Southern Africa. Together, we have proven our continent’s sports potential, capable of going toe-to-toe with the world’s best.

Solidarity, a core value of our movement, was alive in our development programmes, empowering thousands of African athletes with decent training conditions, top-notch facilities, and expert coaching. We bolstered our structures, modernised our infrastructure and invested in the training of our sports managers, driven by the conviction that every African talent deserves a shot at greatness.

Our athletes are our greatest treasure. They personify courage, determination, and the drive to push beyond limits – that is the Olympic spirit. To every one of you, whether you are a seasoned champion or an up-and-coming star, you inspire millions of young Africans. Your dedication does our continent proud, reminding us that excellence knows no borders.

Sports development in Africa remains our top priority. We will continue to work tirelessly to create enabling environments where talent can bloom, guarantee fairness and equal opportunities, especially for our female athletes who shine on the international stage. We will also promote ethical, inclusive and sustainable sports in Africa.

In this season of celebration and reflection, let’s remember: sport is more than just competition – it is a vehicle for peace, a tool for education and a powerful driver of social progress. Let’s keep harnessing the power of sport to fuel dialogue and reconciliation in order to build a united, prosperous Africa.

As we step into 2026, my wish is that the Olympic flame will continue to shine brighter on our continent, illuminating the way for our younger generations towards a future where African sport will take its rightful place on the world stage.

My best wishes to you and your families for a happy, healthy, and successful 2026! May our nations thrive in peace and prosperity! And may our athletes keep breaking barriers and igniting passion across the continent!

Together, united and in solidarity, we will shape the future of African sport.

“Faster, higher, stronger – together”.
