LET’S ALL FAST TOGETHER FOR PEACE AND LOVE IN AFRICA AND ACROSS THE GLOBE
- Honourable Members of the African Olympic and Sports Movement;
- Dear Christian brothers and sisters;
- Dear Muslim brothers and sisters;
- Dear African brothers and sisters;
We are simultaneously entering the holy month of Ramadan and the Christian month of Lent in February 2026. These two great spiritual traditions urge us all to reflect on a unique vision of life.
This is a historic moment of reflection, spirituality and sharing for millions of people worldwide, especially on our African continent.
On behalf of ANOCA, I would like to extend my warmest wishes for peace, serenity and success to all those observing this blessed month.
I also urge you all to use this period to ensure spiritual sanctification, strengthen family and community ties and support the most vulnerable, as these values fully align with the fundamental principles of Olympism: excellence, friendship and respect.
As members of the African Olympic Movement, it is our responsibility to promote these values, not only on the field of play, but also in our communities.
Ramadan and Lent remind us of the importance of perseverance, discipline and generosity – essential qualities for any athlete, leader or sports actor.
I wish to highlight the role of sport as a tool for unity and peace. Sport transcends cultural, religious and social differences. It brings people together, inspires young people and provides a space for dialogue and mutual understanding.
The importance of faith in God, compassion and generosity cannot be overemphasised. Every athlete, coach, official, sports leader and partner must therefore draw inspiration from these values.
We must stamp out all divisions and secure for our young people a future built on solidarity and unity of hearts. Through fasting and prayer, we can achieve this state of mind.
In Africa, where diversity is a source of wealth, sport has the power to strengthen ties among communities and convey a message of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. This month further offers an opportunity to remember that, despite our differences, we all share the same aspirations for peace, dignity and well-being.
In a world marked by inequality and challenges, we must step up our efforts to help the most vulnerable. Whether through philanthropic activities, community initiatives or simply acts of kindness, each of us can make a difference.
I therefore call on all members of the African Olympic Movement to take advantage of this holy month to consolidate their commitment to social development and community welfare. Together, we can help build a better future for our continent.
May this holy month be an opportunity to strengthen our bonds, build our spirituality and renew our commitment to the values that unite us. Our collective resolve is a divine blessing. May it remain so!
May sport continue to be a vehicle for peace, unity and hope for Africa and the world!
May we remain devoted, in peace and in love!
May the Almighty God bless each and every one of you!
