Botwana downs Olympic Games curtain in grand style, wins silver in 4x400m relay

Botswana made history at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 by adding a silver medal in the 4x400m relay to its record of achievements, capping off a memorable competition for the country. Already in the spotlight thanks to Letsile Tebogo’s historic gold in the 200m final, Botswana once again demonstrated the power of their sprint on the final day of athletics at the Stade de France.

Led by the young prodigy, who is just 21 , the Botswana relay team put in an incredible performance. Tebogo, who had already stunned observers with his breath-taking speed and maturity on the track, was once again the focus of attention. He did not only confirm his status as a budding superstar, but also galvanised his team-mates to give their country a place on the podium.

Botswana’s 4x400m relay demonstrated  an unwavering cohesion and determination throughout the race. The four relay runners put on a tremendous team effort, challenging the best teams in the world. From the start, they kept in touch with the leaders, then gradually closed the gap to finish in second place, just a whisker from victory. This silver medal is not only a reward for the athletes, but also symbolises the rise of Botswana’s  athletics on the international stage. By doubling their Olympic medal tally in Paris, Botswana have established themselves as a nation to be reckoned with in the years ahead, particularly in the sprint events.

Letsile Tebogo, with his double medal in Paris, embodies this new generation of athletes who are challenging their limits and competing against the best. His influence transcends  the borders of Botswana, inspiring youths across the African continent to dream big and believe in their potentials.

For Botswana, the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be etched in memories as a turning point in the country’s sports history. The performances of its athletes, particularly Tebogo, did not only do the nation proud, but also highlighted the huge potential of African sport on the world stage.

All in all, Botswana leaves Paris with its shoulders high, with two Olympic medals in the bag, and the conviction that this ground-breaking success is only the beginning of a golden era for athletics in Botswana. With talents like Tebogo, the country has all it takes to continue to shine on the highest international stages.
