On the night of Friday 8 to Saturday 9 September 2023, several towns in the Marrakech region were hit by a magnitude 6.8 earthquake, which left thousands dead and hundreds missing. The earthquake also caused enormous damage, creating fear and panic not only in Marrakech, a tourist mecca, but also in other cities in the Kingdom of Morocco.
