NOC CHAD (cost) lays foundation for headquarters building

As part of the ANOCA NOCs headquarters construction project, a ceremony to lay the foundation for the construction of the COST headquarters took place on 16 December 2023 in the 6th district of the Chadian capital, Ndjamena.

Present at the ceremony were COST President, Idriss DOKONY ADIKER, ANOCA President, the Honourable Mustapha BERRAF, and Treasurer General Eng. Habu GUMEL.

The future infrastructure will be built on a 2,000-square metre site in the Moursal neighbourhood, gifted by His Excellency Mahamat Idriss Déby, President of the Republic of Chad. ANOCA will support COST with a 100,000-dollar package to see through the project.

Speaking on the occasion, the Honourable Mustapha BERRAF had this to say:

“This support will be followed by other grants. On behalf of ANOCA, I would like to thank the President of the Republic of Chad for his historic contribution to this project, which will bring immense joy to the youth of Chad and Africa. Sport and Olympism are part of the instruments for building African values based on solidarity. The NOCs headquarters construction project is a windfall of Olympic Solidarity assistance.”

Also speaking on the occasion, COST President, General Idriss Dakony ADIKER, had this to say:

“This project is of the utmost importance for the Chadian Olympic and Sports Committee. I would like to thank the Honourable Mustapha BERRAF for this opportunity offered to us by ANOCA. Over the next few months, we are going to have a comfortable, modern workspace. This will help improve our managerial performance. The land on which the headquarters will be built belongs to COST, with the official documents already in place and the process of obtaining the land title well under way”.

According to ANOCA Treasurer General, Engr. Habu GUMEL, coordinator of the NOCs headquarters construction project,

“As we lay the foundation of Chad national Olympic Committee today, I pray that we are coming back here very soon to commission this office. Let me use this opportunity to sincerely thank the Government of Chad for providing the land to the NOC and we also appeal that the Government will bring to bear its quota of financial support in the construction of the Chadian National Olympic Committee headquarters.”

The foundation laying ceremony marks a new milestone. The programme coordinated by ANOCA with considerable support from IOC’s Olympic Solidarity is a success, as evidenced by the great mobilisation of the NOCs to equip themselves with modern infrastructure to facilitate their full development in terms of administration and results-based governance. The work environment is very important to encourage better quality work with a view to achieving good managerial performance for sport in Africa.

The construction deadline for the NOC Chad headquarters is 15 months. Some national federations and associations with no headquarters will have offices in the new COST headquarters.
